A lot of tactical and military gear these days is fully synthetic. I was in the military around 2010, so the vast majority of the gear we were issued was made out of synthetics — contrary to the far past, where much of the materials were natural.

Synthetics certainly have their place, and you can find a lot of use and durability out of the stuff. Here's what I think of this 5.11 jacket, and about synthetics in general:
