The Indigo Monster Sashiko jeans by Gustin, in Vintage Straight
A superb, straight-cut pattern with a high rise, room in the seat and thigh — with just the slightest taper from knee to hem
I've been wearing Gustin in some form for years now; a company that I initially thought was new when they started their Kickstarter campaign in 2013, but has technically been in existence since 2005.
Primarily focusing on high-end menswear through their own crowdfunding website, Gustin has established itself within the heritage-loving community, utilizing luxury materials and expert craftsmanship.

With their clothing primarily being made in the USA, it was hard for me not to request a sample of their #341 Indigo Monster Sashiko pants in their unique Vintage Straight cut. Initial impressions? I'm loving the cut and construction quality out of this California-made pair of jeans.
Prior to this new pattern they released in 2024, I actually couldn't fit into Gustin jeans: I typically need a thigh width beyond the average, which is why I always gravitated toward wearing athletic and relaxed cuts, despite trying so many different slim cuts in the past.
Even then, I would still have to size up in the waist just to get the right fit for my body. But for those of you that don't have thigh room issues, you should definitely check out Gustin's other cuts in this same Dobby-weaved material — a high rise and full seat isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Over time, you can expect this garment to fade in super unique ways. Because of its high and lows naturally weaved into the material, and being soaked deeply in natural indigo, you'll see almost rapid changes within the first few weeks of wear, unlike a lot of raw denim.
I should note that this is not technically denim, but it'll age similarly, in a sense — and in the raw denim world, I don't think many people care about the semantics of the word "denim" being used here.
Just like with my Wrangler 13MWZ jeans, I'm going to absolutely wear these day-in and day-out to see how this material morphs and changes over time. And as always, be on the lookout for update videos in the form of YouTube Shorts.
As of right now, these are my favorite-fitting pair of jeans. I can't rave enough about this Vintage Straight cut from Gustin.
