Built with old school sturdiness and in a relaxed fit as an ode to the past, this 100% cotton sweatshirt is built to last and break in — rather than down
Having over a combined 50 years of military service in my immediate family alone, when I was offered to select samples of Gustin's stock, I had to choose this super unique rainbow-nep sweatshirt.
Anything with a military vibe, whether direct or indirect, tends to be my jam. I love olive greens and the various other shades of green around that spectrum, and the pops of colorful rainbow neps makes the sweatshirt look even more premium.
What is nep?
Nep is a small, visible knot clusters within cotton fibers; in the context of this sweatshirt or denim, it's what happens during the yarn spinning process, or during the weaving process.
Back in the day, nep would be considered more of a defect, but something that happens and was acceptable. Over time, with more consistent collection and production of cotton, it's become an easily manageable "defect" to prevent.
But in this instance, and in the raw denim world, this is a quality that we tend to appreciate, because it creates a distinct look and feel to the fabric. Because of its intentionality, it certainly doesn't look defective, does it?
Made in Canada, not the USA?
These 14 ounce cotton sweatshirts and hoodies in Gustin's Rainbow Neps Collection are made in Canada because the very same fabric comes from there.
Using the same mill that creates the fabric to also make the garment is not only efficiently keeping manufacturing in one place, but they also simply know their own material best; ultimately keeping costs lower for us, the consumers.
