I washed a leather jacket to shrink it — Schott Bomber

I found this Schott bomber jacket on eBay, for an insanely nice price — way too nice to pass up.

So without having really any details of the jacket's size other than the tag, once I received it in the mail, wow. 50" chest measurement for a size 40 (that's basically a medium).

I didn't have the intention of shrinking the jacket until it got soaked through by rain, and by that point I knew I would do it. So I threw it in the washer, on hot.

Yes, hot water... in the washer.
Then I even tumble-dried it.

It turned out great. The graininess in the leather really popped out from the contraction, and we lost a whopping 4 inches off the chest circumference.

And the jacket looks and functions all the best because of it. No sloppiness in the chest, no malformed or over-shrunken panels; just functional fashion, the Splished way.
